On Wednesday, February 10th, 2010, NSMAA and NSM College together welcomed 12 students from Stephen F. Austin High School Math and Science Club to visit the University of Houston campus. Rhonda Thompson, the NSM Assistant Dean for Strategic Planning, dedicated her time to make this visit successful. She showed SFA students the newest NSM Science Building and the Center for Nuclear Receptors and Cell Signaling. The students were exposed to many state of the art technologies and current researches at UH. Students also got to meet several prestigious UH professors including the Director of NSM Advising Center. This tour is an effort to introduce local high school math and science students to UH facilities and academic programs. We will hope to continue this program as well as the collaboration with the NSM college to recruit potential students.
NSM Alumni Association’s first 2010 Board Meeting will be held at the Athletics/Alumni Center at 6:00 PM on January 4th, 2010. Please join us if you are interested in becoming a board member. All UH Alumni Association members who are NSM graduates are automatically part of the NSM Alumni Association.

This was pulled directly from the University of Houston Alumni Association. Help UH get up to Tier One!
Sure, there’s no mud-slinging presidential election this year, and hopefully no hanging chads either — but this fall’s election does include something that would directly impact the University of Houston: a constitutional amendment that provides a pathway for more Tier One universities in the State of Texas.
It’s called Proposition 4, and it will be on the ballot on November 3rd. The UH Alumni Association is asking the entire UH community to rally behind this very important cause.
Four things to know about Prop. 4:
- It does not call for any taxes to be levied or bonds to be issued.
- California has nine Tier One universities. New York has seven. Texas has only three!
- To qualify for the funding, schools will have to meet benchmarks determined by the Higher Education Coordinating Board and the State Legislature.
- The enabling legislation received unanimous bipartisan support from the Texas Legislature.
Visit www.myCougarConnection.com/prop4 for more information on this important issue, plus voter registration links, polling locations, and early voting dates.
It’s time to talk it up with your family, friends, and co-workers! You’ll hear more from us as the election approaches, but until then, remember to VOTE FOR Prop. 4.
We’re proud of all the recent College of Natural Science and Mathematics graduates of Spring 2009!
